JSC Almaty Electric Power Plants held public hearings with the aim of discussing the plans of environmental measures for TPP-1 for 2015-2025

On May 20, 2015, JSC AlES held public hearings to discuss the plans for environmental activities of TPP-1 for 2015-2025 before consumers and other interested parties. Representatives of authorized bodies, mass media, residents of adjacent areas, etc. took part in the public hearings. Lamzar Mashanlo, the chief of the workshop for setting up and environmental protection of TPP-1 made a detailed plan of environmental protection activities of JSC AlES TPP-1 for 2015-2019 . He noted that, in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a draft of maximum permissible emissions for AlES TPP-1 was developed in connection with the expiration of the previous project of maximum permissible emissions. Considering the fact that TPP-1 is located in the center of the city with low air circulation, the environmental activity of the station in terms of the type and quality of the fuel used is regulated by a number of Governmental Decrees and decisions of Maslikhat, according to which in the inter-heating period the station can operate only on gas during the heating season, low-sulfur fuel oil and Karaganda region coal. Almaty TPP-1 is the only station in Kazakhstan, where such strict environmental requirements are imposed. In the inter-heating season, a full stop of TPP-1 is conducted to reduce environmental burden on the central part of the city. Another factor is the commissioning of the connecting heat at TPP-2 - TPP-1, which makes it possible to use the power of TPP-2 with a power reduction of TPP-1. A significant reduction in the use of solid fuels is noted with an increase in the share of natural gas using a cleaner ecological type of fuel. The discussion was of a constructive nature. The received proposals and recommendations will be taken into account in future activity of TPP-1 of JSC AlES.
