“Almaty Power Stations” JSC held a press tour for journalists of regional and national media

At the initiative of Almaty DARNM “Almaty Power Station” JSC held a press-tour for journalists of regional and national media on May 15.

Journalists and representatives of Almaty DARNM visited the main power plant of Almaty region - Almaty CHP-2.

Media representatives had an opportunity not only to witness the features of the workers of power industry, but also to understand the process of fulfillment of investment obligations of “AlES” JSC for the years 2009-2013, as well as get answers to all their questions.
Journalists of “Kazakhstanskaya Pravda”, “Almaty Akshamy”, TV and Radio Company “Almaty”, visited the ash disposal area, the main control panel, boiler plant, cooling towers of CHP-2.

Responding to questions from the media reporters, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board for Development Galym Zhanbyrshy, in his presentation dwelt on how the investment program of “AlES” JSC was carried out. It was noted that the investment obligations of “AlES” JSC in 2009-2012 amounted to 59 billion tenge (excluding VAT), including at their own expense – more than 39 billion tenge, borrowed funds – more than 2 billion tenge, at the expense of the republican budget for the replenishment of the authorized capital - more than 17 billion tenge and were carried out in the following areas:

$1-     measures to increase the production volume - 31.0%;

$1-     measures to reduce the cost of production - 3.0%;

$1-     maintaining the current level of production - 34.0%;

$1-     constructionofashdumps - 18.0%;

$1-     environmentalprotectionactivities - 14.0%.

Among others, the following major activities were realized:

$1-     reconstruction of ventilation cooling towers at CHP-2, CHP-3, which helped to increase the volume of production of electrical energy at 549.7 million kWh per year;

$1-     construction of a boiler on CHP-2, which allowed to increase the heat output of up to 1 million Gcal per year. The project was implemented for activating the "locked" thermal power of CHP-2 and transfer it through the connecting heating main between CHP-2-CHP-1 to the CHP-1 zone, and this project aims to improve the environmental situation of the city. At the same time, emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere at the CHP-1 decreased from 6.2 to 3.0 thousands of tons per year.

$1-     construction of ash dumps on CHP-1, CHP-2 and CHP-3 is one of the key areas to ensure the stable operation of the stations. The ash disposal area is part of a continuous technological cycle of the coal-fired stations, without which the station cannot function. With a view to an uninterrupted supply of electricity and thermal energy consumers of Almaty and Almaty region, there are regularly works on reconstruction and expansion of ash dumps of CHP-1, CHP-2, CHP-3. Delays in the construction of the ash dump will reduce the release of products to consumers, until the probability of a stop of the station, which, in turn, will lead to significant economic losses not only in the energy sector, but in all sectors of the national economy, will prepare the ground for social tensions;

$1-     environmental protection measures aimed at solving environmental problems. For example, such as the installation of dust extraction plants, modernization of burner assemblies on the departments of CHP-1, CHP-2, CHP-3, etc. These activities helped to reduce emissions of inorganic dust to 10108 tons per year;

$1-     measures for the reconstruction and replacement of equipment to maintain the current production level, which helped to reduce the number of emergency stops from 153 in 2009 to 100 in 2013 and to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity and heat to the city of Almaty and Almaty region consumers. It is necessary to take into account the fact that the weighted average deterioration of main equipment of the energy sources of “AlES” JSC is about 70%.

G.Zhanbyrshy noted that the implementation of these activities ensures a continuous supply of Almaty and Almaty region of electric and thermal energy.
In the coming days, according to the results of the press-tour plots will bein the news programs of television, newspaper articles will be prepared. Through the eyes of journalists, Almaty residents will be able to learn how investment obligations of “AlES” JSC are performed.
