The green Belt of the A.Zhakutov CHPP-2

1000 seedlings of paulownia have been growing at the ash dump of CHP-2 since the spring of this year

In March 2022, 1000 Paulownia trees were planted on the territory of the A.Zhakutov CHP-2. The environmental project took place within the framework of the implementation of the state program of low-carbon development and the adoption of a course for "green" development.

This ecological project was launched as a "pilot" in order to assess the degree of survival and adaptation of Paulownia to the climate conditions of the Almaty region.

– We have several large paulownia trees growing at the station for a long time. This is a fast-growing tree that has no analogues in the world. Therefore, we decided to plant Paulownia trees on the ash dump of the station to create a green belt", – said Bauyrzhan Kaliyev, chief engineer of the station.

The Paulownia tree adorns the station, says Asel Sultangalieva, the station's process engineer. The crown of Paulownia gives dense shade in summer, and many workers stop to rest in the shade of a tree. And in the spring, everyone admires their beautiful lush flowering.

– Paulownia is an unpretentious tree and is able to grow on infertile soils, including clay soils. and that's why they were planted on the territory of ash dump No. 1, said Dyusengali Soltanbakov, head of the commissioning and environmental activities workshop. – Paulownia has an accelerated metabolism, which implies a large volume of carbon dioxide absorption – from 30 to 70 tons per hectare. The size of one of its leaves reaches 100 square centimeters. Thanks to this, it can absorb more carbon dioxide and give 6 kg of oxygen.

Thanks to the care, small seedlings planted in early spring have taken root. Some trees now reach a height of 1.8 meters.

Paulownia is called an "eco-friendly tree", because its extraordinary qualities, such as unpretentiousness, rapid growth, large leaves that absorb even heavy metal concentrates, a beautiful crown and abundant flowering, make it exceptionally suitable for the implementation of the "AlES" JSC program to compensate for the negative impact on the environment and landscaping of the sanitary protection area zones.
