Reconstruction of facilities in 2010 and 2011

Results of investment obligations with respect to “Almaty Power Stations” JSC for 2010-2011

Activities with respect to replacement, modernization, reconstruction, technical reequipment of available assets, new construction, as well as control of current production level, were performed in the amount of 16.3 bln. tenge in the “AlES” JSC according to the Agreement on investment obligations, signed with the Ministry of Industry and New technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The following main activities were performed for the purposes of performance of Investment obligations:

  • development of feasibility study with respect to reconstruction of Hydroelectric Power Chain;
  • development of feasibility study with respect to construction of regulating Kerbulak hydroelectric plant at Ili river;
  • development of feasibility study with respect to reconstruction of CHP Plant 1 with conversion to gas and installation of gas-turbine plant;
  • reconstruction of ash extraction plants with installation of emulsifiers on the boiler units at CHP Plant 2, CHP Plant 3 made possible to reduce negative impact on region environment and allowable gross emission of harmful substances (ash) by 5600 ton per year;
  • commissioning of cooling towers at CHP Plant 2 and CHP Plant 3 made possible to reduce gap between the installed capacity and available capacity by an average of 120 MW (at CHP Plant 2 – by 90 MW, at CHP Plant 3 – by 30 MW);
  • reconstruction with respect to excitation system of hydraulic units of Kapchagay HEP Plant made possible to increase equipment lifetime;
  • connection of excitation system of hydraulic generators to the hydraulically-regulated turbine system at Kapchagay HEP Plant made possible to increase equipment utilization ratio;
  • reconstruction of idle discharge pipes at Hydroelectric Power Chain made possible to timely perform water discharge and provide the accidentfree work of plants;
  • works with respect to replacement of 110 kV oilbreak switches with sulfur-hexafluoride switches at CHP Plant 1, CHP Plant 2, CHP Plant 3 made possible to increase reliability of power supply to the power consumers;
  • reconstruction of gas-distributing plant at CHP Plant 1 made possible to increase reliability of gas supply and accuracy in fuel record of power plant;
  • reconstruction of demineralizing plants at CHP Plant 1, CHP Plant 2, CHP Plant 3 made possible to significantly reduce the amount of impurities in waste water and reduce the cost of demineralized water by means of reduction in water consumption for own purposes and expenses on chemical agents and ion-exchange materials;
  • reconstruction of steam lines in the boilers and turbines, as well as steam header at CHP Plant 3 made possible to replace the physically worn-out equipment, completed its fleet life;
  • commissioning of automatic system for commercial accounting of power consumption made possible to move to the quality service level and optimize the consumption of energy resources.
